CODY
"Making music is most enjoyable when it comes from within. I attach meaning and purpose to all my instruction which leads to a deeper connection between my students and the music. Through this, I help my musicians find THEIR voice, as a musician and as a person."

about cody
Cody Burroughs is a versatile vocalist and choral director based in Northeast Ohio. A double graduate of Kent State University, he holds two Bachelor of Music degrees: one in Choral Music Education and the other in Vocal Performance. He is an active performer throughout the Akron, Canton, and Cleveland areas, bringing his dynamic artistry to a wide variety of musical settings.
Cody currently serves as the Chorus Director for the Video Game Symphony, one of the few orchestras in the world dedicated entirely to the unique and evolving art of video game music. He is also the Director of Choirs at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kent, where he fosters a vibrant, inclusive choral community. His work as a conductor is defined by a commitment to excellence, enthusiasm, and cultivating a genuine passion for music in his students.

A lyric tenor with a strong foundation in classical Bel Canto technique, Cody blends his solo vocal training with his deep expertise in ensemble singing to help students become well-rounded, expressive vocalists. He takes pride in connecting with those who may struggle with music literacy, drawing on his own late start in music and extensive formal training to inspire growth and confidence in others.
Cody studied under GRAMMY® Award-winning musician Jay White during his time at Kent State, exploring a wide array of musical genres. He also participated in the university’s Opera program and served as Assistant Choral Director for Coro Cantare, KSU’s tenor/bass ensemble.

With experience leading choirs ranging in age from 11 to 90, Cody has developed a nuanced understanding of the evolving human voice. As he continues to build his career in Northeast Ohio, he remains proudly rooted in Akron as a member of the AMI faculty, where he continues to educate and inspire the next generation of vocalists.
