about opal

Opal is the Oboe & Bassoon Professor at the University of Mount Union. She holds a Master of Music in Performance from West Virginia University, as well as a Bachelor of Music in Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Kent State University. 

 

During her undergraduate & graduate studies, she conducted research on advanced oboe techniques and explored the impact of music on students with diverse cognitive and behavioral needs.

 

A classically trained oboist and English horn player, Opal performs widely throughout Northeast Ohio. She currently serves as principal oboist of the Akron Symphonic Winds, oboe/English horn player with the Cleveland Winds, and English horn player for the Kaboom Studio Orchestra. Her work spans solo, chamber, studio, and large ensemble settings, allowing her to collaborate across a variety of musical genres and performance environments.

 

In addition to her performing career, Opal is a dedicated and versatile music educator. She has taught band, choir, and general music from Pre-K through eighth grade, provided private instruction, worked as an instructional specialist, directed ensembles, and served as a music director for theater productions. Her teaching reflects a deep commitment to musical excellence, holistic student development, and meaningful community engagement.
