about zoe
Zoe Stier is a recent graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), where she earned her Bachelor and Master’s of Music degrees in Flute Performance under the tutelage of Mary Kay Fink, Jessica Sindell, and Joshua Smith. Zoe flourished in the orchestral atmosphere, and had great success performing as a part of the CIM orchestra. Most notably, Zoe performed several times as principal flute and piccolo player at Severance Hall and at the Maltz Performing Arts Center.

Since graduating, Zoe performs in regional orchestras throughout northeast Ohio. She holds the Piccolo & Flute III chair of the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra, and performs as a substitute musician for orchestras including the Firelands Symphony Orchestra, Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, Snowbelt Symphony, Fryderyk Chopin Institute of Ohio Orchestra, and the City Music Cleveland Chamber Orchestra.
In addition to her orchestral playing, Zoe is a frequent performer for concerts presented by Musical Upcoming Stars in the Classics (M.U.S.I.C.), weddings, private corporate events, and performing for services at many churches in the Cleveland area.

Zoe began her musical journey in the fall of 2009 in Alpena, Michigan. Her love of music was shaped through private flute lessons with Lisa Schultz and Mary Ann Hubbard, and through her involvement with multiple school-based band activities, led by Raymond Reynolds. In the fall of 2014, Zoe began attending the Interlochen Arts Academy (IAA), one of the world’s most prestigious private arts preparatory schools, from which she graduated with high honors. During her time at the IAA, Zoe performed alongside members of the New York Philharmonic, and in masterclasses with world-renowned musicians including Jim Walker and Judith Mendenhall.

Zoe Stier has studied most notably under Nancy Stagnitta, Mary Kay Fink, Joshua Smith, and Jessica Sindell. Zoe is a recipient of two Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation scholarships: The Jean Louise Martin Scholarshipand The Madge Cathcart Gerke Collegiate Artist Scholarship, as well as being the recipient of two named scholarships during her time at CIM: The Susan Palm Waller Scholarship for Flute and The Patience Cameron Hoskins Scholarship Fund for Flute. In the fall of 2022, Zoe was one of two winners in CIM’s Imperfect Pitch entrepreneurship contest, with her winning entry, ClassicalCare, a database with the goal of making injury prevention and treatment easily accessible to musicians.

Outside of music, Zoe can be found curled up with a book, thrifting around town, or out for a stroll with her boyfriend, Ben.
